Like most of us, I’ve been taking photographs all my life, and some of them were even pretty good. But it’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve taken what I would consider a serious interest in photography.
It has been a delight to learn a new skill. For most of my life I couldn’t have told you much about apertures, shutter speeds, lighting setups and composition, and I certainly never ventured anywhere near any buttons that said “Manual” on a camera. Walking into a shop and seeing a shiny Nikon D300 changed all that for ever… hey, I’m a guy. We’re talking serious toys here! These days I shoot with a Nikon D3 and bags full of kit to achieve the lighting effects I want, but I’ll never forget the moment it started.
Beyond that, the act of creating is its own reward. If you’ve ever looked at something you wrote or made or cooked, or listened to something you said or played or sang and thought “wow, did I do that?”, you’ll know what I mean.
